Payday 3 Appears On Steam But Release Date Still A Mystery

Payday 3

Fans of the Payday series will be happy to know that a Steam page for its third entry is live now, albeit without a release date. Announced way back in 2016, the game was since caught in financing troubles and it was only at the fag end of 2022 that a teaser trailer was released, pleasing eager fans.

Payday 3 will follow the same core concept as its predecessors. It will have players embarking on ambitious heists in an online co-op fashion. The game will be a first-person shooter and will take place mainly in New York.

“Payday 3 is the much-anticipated sequel to one of the most popular co-op shooters ever. Since its release, Payday players have been revelling in the thrill of a perfectly planned and executed heist. That’s what makes Payday a high-octane, co-op FPS experience without equal.” reads its Steam description.

Payday 3 will see the return of the original gang – Dallas, Chains, Wolf, and Hoxton. It will be set in the 2020s, which will mean game-changing additions like more advanced surveillance systems and the rise of cryptocurrency.

In May 2016, Starbreeze Studios announced the start of Payday 3’s development following the purchase of its intellectual property for around $30 million.

But the company’s financial tumult meant that it had to be almost completely reliant on revenue from Payday 2, leading to problems financing its sequel.

In March 2021, Kock Media came to the rescue, committing €50 million to assist in the game’s development and marketing, which included over 18 months of post-launch support using the games as a service model.

This makes it certain that Payday 3 will adopt the ongoing game model, whenever it’s made available on Steam in 2023. We’ll have more on it when new details are out.
