Sony Gives First Glimpse Of Upcoming Gran Turismo Movie

When Sony first announced a Gran Turismo game, it was hard to imagine what the company had in store for us. That’s because the series has never featured a full-blown story that you can look forward to being portrayed on the big screen.

The game’s new teaser trailer, however, gives us a good idea about what to expect from it. The makers of the Gran Turismo movie seem to have focused the bulk of their attention on recreating the racing experience.

This is seemingly being achieved by means of life-like audio as well as camera work that sort of emulates the third-person perspectives that games from the series are known for.

There’s more to the Gran Turismo movie than just that. Archie Madekwe, who plays Jann Mardenborough in the film describes it as a “drama” and “a love story.” Also starring is David Harbour who calls it, “badass racecar action that you’re going to feel like you’re in the middle of.”

Meanwhile, Orlando Bloom adds that it’s a “movie based on a true life story.” So there’s a lot happening in the Gran Turismo film that fans should be excited about.

In a rare video game-to-film adaptation that hasn’t taken years to get off the ground, this one was announced in May 2022 and will be ready for a release this August.

It’s being directed by Neill Blomkamp from a screenplay written by Jason Hall and Zach Baylin. Blomkamp is known for films like District 9, Elysium, and Demonic, while the credits of Hall and Baylin include American Sniper, Creed II, and King Richard.

After last year’s Uncharted film, the Gran Turismo movie will be the second flick to come out of the stables of PlayStation Productions when it hits cinemas on August 11 this year.
