Call of Duty: Warzone rakes up 15 million players in 3 days

Warzone

Things have been heating up in the battle royale arenas of Call of Duty: Warzone, even as it’s now being played by more than 15 million gamers worldwide. These record-breaking numbers have already put it way ahead of EA’s much loved battle royale title, Apex Legends, which happens to be an offshoot of the Titanfall universe. Warzone had also broken the said title’s record on day one, by ushering a whopping 6 million players into its world.

Apex Legends, which was released in February last year, attracted a million gamers in the first eight hours, and had managed to hit the 10 million mark in 72 hours. More than a month later, the game boasted of over 50 million players. However, both Apex Legends and Call of Duty: Warzone are very far away from Fortnite’s 250 million playerbase.

Call of Duty: Warzone is a free-to-play battle royale offering developed by the veterans over at Infinity Ward and Raven Software. The game is actually a part of 2019’s Call of Duty: Modern Warfare, but can also be individually downloaded by interested parties. It allows online multiplayer combat among 150 players, and offers both cross-platform play and cross-platform progression.

Warzone takes place in the fictional city of Verdansk, and features two main game modes. While one is the traditional battle royale mode, the other one is Plunder, which revolves around the title’s in-game currency, and asks teams to search for stacks of cash scattered around the map to accumulate $1 million.
