Destiny beta characters won’t carry over to final game

In news that could be somewhat painful to those who have invested hours and hours within the Destiny beta, their character progress from this test build won’t be carried forward into the main game. The many changes that have been made after this beta period have been cited as the main reason behind this decision by Bungie. This game is all set to be released worldwide by Activision for the PS3, PS4, Xbox 360 and Xbox One on September 9.

Destiny

During the much appreciated Destiny beta which ran through July, nothing was said by Bungie on whether character progress will stay or not. However, since it was a beta, the various bug reports and suggestions which the studio received from the participants have been added into the final game now. These include a change to the way experience points are earned, the addition and removal of some features and more.

With so many changes from the beta build, if its progress were to carry over into the game it could result in a ‘broken’ product said the developer. This is why the makers decided to go against carrying the progress forward. Destiny is a first-person shooter, equipped with RPG gameplay and extreme online integration which makes it look like an MMO of sorts. Taking place in a post-apocalyptic setting, it transpires in an always-connected universe featuring diverse environments and game modes.
