The wait is finally over, as Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 has finally made its way to store shelves worldwide for the PS3, Xbox 360 and PC. Along with the game’s release, also comes the launch of Call of Duty Elite which is a service aimed at tracking lifetime statistics of players across multiple games, besides offering various social-networking options.
Modern Warfare 3 was officially outed worldwide at midnight yesterday through launch parties at over 13,000 retailers from around the world. Co-developed by Infinity Ward and Sledgehammer Games, this title supposedly kicks in an intense single-player campaign alongside re-imagined multiplayer features. The game’s campaign follows the events that transpired in Modern Warfare 2 and which have now turned into World War 3.
Eric Hirshberg, CEO of Activision Publishing, commented, “This watershed launch extends the legacy of the franchise like no other previous release. Combining the narrative punch and gameplay innovations of the next chapter in the Call of Duty: Modern Warfare series with the unique services of Call of Duty Elite will bring Call of Duty gamers together in a cohesive, fan-focused environment like no other.”
As part of a promotional deal, this title is currently being offered along with an Xbox 360 Limited Edition package which comprises a console with custom MW3 artwork, a 320GB hard drive, two wireless controllers, custom Modern Warfare-inspired system audio and a copy of Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3.
Moreover, the Call of Duty Elite is also on sale currently, providing gamers with the opportunity to ‘Connect, Compete, and Improve.’ It can be accessed via mobile, web or consoles, so as to connect with friends, plan matches with their clans, configure load-outs, access stats and monitor maps. Many more features are also part of this service which can be used along with both Call of Duty: Black Ops as well as Modern Warfare 3.
Gamers around the world can now purchase Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 for the PS3, Xbox 360 and PC at a price of 59.99 USD (approx. Rs. 2,956). Alternatively, the game’s Wii version has also been released and now retails at 49.99 USD (approx. Rs. 2,463).
