So many BioShock rumors have been flying around in the last few months. First there was speculation that the sequel would have ”˜Big Sisters’. Then we heard the game would have multiplayer but no co-op and that 2K had removed the ”˜Sea of Dreams’ subtitle from its name, but then reconsidered and Sea of Dreams was back. Although, it turns out that the Sea of Dreams subtitle is only for the trailer and not for the game itself. Later IG Fun were rumored to be making an iPhone version of BioShock. Even the BioShock movie was put on hold due to financial constraints.

Now developer 2K Games has revealed that it has partnered up with Digital Extremes to develop a multiplayer experience for BioShock 2, and Digital Extremes is working closely with 2K Marin to develop a new and significant element to improve the feel of the BioShock universe.
“The fans asked for a multiplayer experience and we answered,” Christoph Hartmann, president of 2K Games stated. “With Digital Extremes delivering a multiplayer experience for BioShock 2 that features all of the things that make BioShock unique, we’re holding ourselves to a high standard so that we can deliver the depth and variety that fans of the BioShock universe demand.”
BioShock 2’s multiplayer will take players to the fall of the underwater city Rapture, while they play as a Plasmid test subject for Sinclair Solutions. The game will allow players to earn experience points which they can use to access new Weapons, Tonics and Plasmids, and will give them a chance to see the city before its fall. Players can battle it out in locations such as Mercury Suites and Kashmir Restaurant. Digital Extremes brings to the table over 10 years of experience in the FPS genre.
BioShock 2 is presently being developed by 2K Marin, 2K Australia and Digital Extremes. The game is scheduled for a fall 2009 release on the Xbox 360, PS3 and Windows PC, although prices for the game have not been revealed.
