Marvel Vs. Capcom 3 Preview: Heavier Punches, Bigger Beatdowns

Here we go again with yet another cross-over fighting game pitting two superhero forces against each other. But what happens when you bring two formidable power-packed teams onto a single screen one more time in the Marvel vs. Capcom series? Absolute catastrophe and double the mayhem is the answer. And that’s precisely what you get with the much awaited iteration of the franchise. We got the chance to preview the exciting fighting title entitled Marvel Vs. Capcom 3: Fate of Two Worlds, an experience which left us with many a fond memory and a lot to expect from the final version of the game.

Marvel Vs. Capcom 3

Surging with energy and high exuberance, we could to do battle with ten powerful beings, five from the Marvel arsenal and five plucked right out of various Capcom titles such as Resident Evil, Street Fighter and Devil May Cry among others. We got to command the likes of Captain America, Hulk, Deadpool, Wolverine and Iron Man from the Marvel side. The Capcom roster included Dante, Ryu, Morrigan Aensland, Chris Redfield and Felicia. All the characters were a complete treat to handle as each possessed their own unique abilities, fighting styles and special attacks.

The graphics of Marvel vs. Capcom 3 were something we were definitely raving about long after our experience. Pristine clarity and vibrant colors were what hit us like lightening during gameplay. The smashing graphics were looking neat and polished as they were splashed onto the 2D battle arena. Talking about the battle area, each match we previewed had a detailed backdrop filled with bright tones which goes to say just what variety we could expect when the game actually hits stores. The characters and gameplay were also limited to just 2D as they had the ability to move forward, backward and up into the air.

We got to experience the familiar tag team fighting gameplay where three characters are opted for and can be called onto the screen at any given point during battle. The action seemed real and life-like with each character dishing out his or her own unique moves and wielding some awesome weaponry. Combos performed by the characters were also breathtaking and seemingly easy to perform as compared to the game’s predecessors. These were executable by punching in and stringing together a combination of attacks. Special moves could also be dished out by merging joystick movements and hitting down on various buttons.

A notable change in this title was that the returning character, namely the Hulk, could now execute steady air combos which were a refreshing change when compared to his other limited moves witnessed in the earlier iterations. Deadpool came in with a quick joke on his lips and deadly blades while Iron Man’s new stance and Proton Cannon firing at a new angle was quite a sight.

All we can say is that fans of the fighting video game genre can already begin to invest in a good couch and an Xbox 360 or PS3 console as they await the release of Marvel vs. Capcom 3: Fate of Two Worlds next year. Being a preview version, it certainly tugged at our fingers and left us craving for more. We however couldn’t figure out how the title ‘The Fate of Two Worlds’ fits into all this mayhem. We will just have to wait until next spring to find that out. At this point, we are completely clueless who the ultimate final boss in the game would be, but we do hope that the entity lives up to its previous two counterparts.

Any guesses whether Capcom would throw in a familiar face or spring a completely new innovation?
