SCEE Reveals Resistance 3, New PS3 Models and More at gamescom

gamescom 2010 commenced today at Cologne, Germany and is scheduled to run all through Sunday. At a preview event, Sony Computer Entertainment Europe disclosed two new titles namely Resistance 3 and Ratchet and Clank: All 4 One from Insomniac Games as well as an extensive line-up of new names for the PSP Essentials category. Furthermore, the company revealed two new PS3 models complete with larger hard drives and six new catch up TV channels.

Resistance 3 Ratchet Clank

SCEE President and CEO, Andrew House divulged that the new PS3 systems were unveiled to accommodate more PSN downloadable content in the form of games or movies. The 320GB model is scheduled to take the place of the current 250GB model and can be purchased as part of an exclusive PlayStation Move bundle tagged at 349 Euros (approx. Rs. 20,908). The existing 120GB PS3 will be replaced by a 160GB model in October bearing the same cost of 299 Euros (approx. Rs. 17,912).

At the event, House even announced the PlayTV Live Chat which will be available in the following months. The latest upgrade brings to the forefront community functionality by enabling onscreen text discussions. He also shed light on six new Catch up TV channels for the PS3 which feature TV3 in Spain, Animax in Germany, ITV in the UK and Yahoo!7’s PLUS7 service in Australia among others. This October, movie enthusiasts can enjoy independent and classic films by downloading the free MUBI application from the PlayStation Store onto the XMB of the PS3.

The CEO and President of Insomniac Games Ted Price disclosed at the event the latest inclusion of Ratchet & Clank: All 4 One. Noted to be a first in the popular franchise, now up to four gamers can play as Ratchet, Clank, Quark or Dr. Nefarious and explore the untamed alien planet together. Further catching the attention of the attendees was the revelation of the highly-awaited title Resistance 3. A video was shown at gamescom which revealed just a taste of what they could expect from the blazing title.

Andrew House revealed that the year ahead had quite a few surprises up its sleeve such as LittleBigPLanet 2, Sorcery, Time Crisis: Razing Storm, Gran Turismo5, InFamous 2, and DC Universe Online. He also confirmed the store release date of the PlayStation Move as September 15, 2010 with the motion controller and navigation controller being priced at 39.99 Euros (approx. Rs. 2,395) and 29.99 Euros (approx. Rs. 1,796) respectively. A starter pack that includes a PlayStation Move motion controller, PlayStation Eye and a Starter disc will be available for a cost of 59.99 Euros (approx. Rs. 3,593). A plethora of titles were also unveiled like Heavy Rain Move Edition, The Fight, SOCOM: Special Forces, MAG, Time Crisis: Razing Storm, EyePet Move Edition, Start the Party, TV Superstars and Sports Champions.

Besides the debut of stereoscopic 3D games PAIN and WipEout HD, House revealed other upcoming titles like MotorStorm Apocalypse, Killzone3 and WipEout HD. PSP owners can also look forward to some new titles in the Essentials range like Everybody’s Golf, Buzz!: Quiz World, Patapon, Wipeout Pure and Lemmings. Resistance 3 and Ratchet & Clank: All 4 One is slated for a 2011 release although the official dates and pricing are still under wraps.
