We couldn’t think of anything else to start off this compilation with other than Half Life. The series has two full-length titles and shorter expansions known as episodes. The main character here is Gordon Freeman who you’ll be controlling throughout the series.

The first title starts off with the Black Mesa Federal Research Facility being invaded by aliens after a portal to another world called Xen is opened. Freeman fights the creatures and destroys their leader On Xen.

2. Deus Ex: Human Revolution:

Human Revolution is the third installment in the Deus Ex series which actually takes place before the others. This title puts you in the shoes of ex-SWAT specialist Adam Jensen with the objective to manage defense at an American experimental biotechnology firm.

An attack by a black ops team leaves you wounded and forced to become mechanically augmented. The game lets you finish objectives in anyway desired, through force, stealth, hacking or social skills. You can choose which of these abilities need to be increased as the story progresses.

Portal 2 is the second addition to the series which is developed by Valve. Being a sequel to the first edition, this game puts you on an adventure through Aperture Laboratories in a very amusing and challenging gameplay. The portal device is your main weapon which you will use to solve mind-boggling puzzles that take place in various test chambers.

Warcraft 3 is most known for its fast-paced multiplayer action, but it has one fine narrative. This RTS title comes in two editions, Reign of Chaos and The frozen Throne expansion which introduces new missions. Set in the fantasy world of Azeroth, the game takes place 15 years after the battle between the orcs and humans.

Now, a new war is about to start as the Burning Legion filled with demonic creatures is set to destroy the mortal world. The game lets you play as four different races including undead and night elves, each having unique heroes and units.

The GTA series has been loved for its open world gameplay where you can do anything you want (and permitted by the title) apart from just missions. GTA IV: Liberty City and San Andreas are two games that will keep you occupied for a long time. The former is the continuation to GTA III featuring better graphics and better gameplay.

The latter on the other hand, is our personal favorite which delivers a large map to explore, various types of vehicles for land, water and air transport, and an intriguing storyline.

6. Metro 2033:

Metro 2033 is based on the same name novel written by Dmitry Glukhovsky. It takes place in a post apocalyptic world where humans are almost extinct and the planet is overrun by a new species. Most of the gameplay takes place in the metros of Moscow where the last of humanity strive to survive against the mutant creatures.

This horror first-person shooter is not for the faint hearted.

7. Dishonored:

Dishonored combines action and stealth into a single immersive package which will keep you hooked on. The game is set in a place called Dunwall where you’re the bodyguard of the empress, but later, framed for her murder. Seeking revenge, you put on a mask and become an assassin with supernatural powers such as the ability to teleport, possess living beings and stop time.

One of the most praised features of the title is that you can implement your own strategies to assassinate people and your decisions will affect the outcome of the game.

8. Call of Duty:

The Call of Duty franchise is one of the longest in the FPS genre and it also harbors some of the most enjoyable war titles available. If you’re looking for something with a good story and great gameplay as well as graphics, the Modern Warfare and Black Ops series are certainly worth playing.

Each of them is broken up in three installments. The former is mainly focused on futuristic combat, while the latter starts off during WWII, then goes into the Cold War era followed by futuristic warfare.

If you’re a fan of open-world titles like GTA, then Just Cause 2 is what you need. The title takes place in the frictional country of Panau where you play as Rico Rodriguez who’s objective is to overthrow the dictator Pandak Panay and assassinate his mentor, Tom Sheldon.

The game is heavy on details and scenes look beautify from the air and ground. Weapons are plenty and can be purchased throughout the game. Also, exploration and causing chaos is needed to advance the story.
