We’ve heard about the existence of Gran Turismo 6 in the past through a number of leaks, but had wondered why Sony was taking so long to announce it to the world. Now we’ve realized that the company might just have been waiting for a special occasion to do so. It so happens that the GT series will be celebrating its 15-year anniversary this month. And the new game couldn’t have asked for a better occasion for its announcement.
Although nothing about it has been confirmed, a small tease as well as past rumors have given fans enough reason to believe that a fresh game from the much loved franchise will indeed be seeing the light of the day soon. It has been revealed that on May 15, an event will be held at the Silverstone circuit in London where the father of the series and CEO of Polyphony Digital, Kazunori Yamauchi will be making ‘some exciting announcements about the future of the brand.’
Nothing other than this about the announcement has been revealed by Sony as of now. It has however gone on to convey that the event will act as a celebration of everything that the GT series has made millions of fans all over the world experience. It has also been mentioned that a number of car manufacturers that have accompanied the series through these 15 years will be present at the venue. These include the likes of Audi, BMW, Ford, Honda, Jaguar, KTM, Mercedes Benz, Tesla and Toyota.
Earlier this year, a leak had indicated that the new game from the series will be released in 2013, and that too for the PS3, and not the PS4 which is slated to launch this holiday season. Michael Denny, the senior vice-president of Sony Computer Entertainment Europe’s Worldwide Studio, had given away this bit of information to a gaming website during an interview. In April, various online retailers were spotted listing the game in their catalogs. Through this leak, it had come to the fore that the title might land in November this year.
