We know that Gran Turismo 6 is indeed under development, but at a time when Sony has started showing off the PS4 and its abilities, we weren’t expecting the said game to have been aimed at the PS3, and that too, with a 2013 release window. A report has surfaced, leading us to believe that the game could very be unveiled soon, as Sony may have plans of launching it this year itself. Developer Polyphony Digital has in the past confirmed that it is working on the title, but has stopped short of revealing anything else.
As of now, speculation about Gran Turismo 6 has surfaced thanks to an interview published by Silicon Republic a few days back. The website had a chat with Michael Denny, who’s the senior vice-president of Sony Computer Entertainment Europe’s Worldwide Studios. During the talk, Denny focused his attention on the next-gen PlayStation and the various games it has coming its way. But it was towards the end of this conversation that he let one slip about GT6.
When the discussion shifted towards current-gen consoles, this is what he had to say: “Look at the games coming out on the PlayStation 3 like The Last of Us, Beyond: Two Souls, GT6, and then on the third-party side of things another fantastic Assassin’s Creed, GTA.” Now the series is known for its massive delays, but launching it for the PS3 after the PS4 hits the market wouldn’t make much sense, would it?
It is hence that this piece of comment is believable. Another way this could be looked at is that the game will be launched for both the PS3 as well as the PS4, in Watch Dogs fashion. The possibility of the latter happening is more, we suppose, as Sony wouldn’t want to let go of the opportunity of using one of its most revered franchises to sell the PS4 which was unveiled by the company recently along with a flurry of games aimed towards it.
If this report is to be taken under consideration, the truth about the release date for Gran Turismo 6 can be expected to arrive sometime soon. We’ll have more on the game when concrete details are out.
