GTA 5 Crosses 165 Million Copies Sold

GTA 5

March 15 was when GTA V was released for the PS5 and the Xbox Series X/S and this has seemingly boosted its sales enough for the number of total units sold to breach the 165 million copies mark. And that figure is only applicable for the units sold until March 31, which means there might just be plenty more to add to that.

A large chunk of the sales can be attributed to GTA Online as it now remains the main reason why fans are buying the game to get back together with their crew in GTA 5 on newer consoles. That being said, the sales numbers are up by 5 million copies since Take-Two Interactive – Rockstar Games’ parent company – released them in February this year.

The entire GTA series can now boast of selling over 375 million copies worldwide, as announced by Take-Two. The company even revealed that the lifetime sales numbers of Red Dead Redemption 2 have breached the 44 million mark as opposed to the 43 million figure that was revealed in February.

Meanwhile, there’s news that the mobile versions of Grand Theft Auto: The Trilogy – The Definitive Edition have been delayed. The remastered PS2 era trilogy was listed against the Fiscal Year 2023 release window in the latest Take-Two Earnings report, as opposed to a June release that was planned earlier.

The trio of games had received tremendous backlash upon its arrival late last year for poor graphics and technical errors. They have since been updated but Take-Two still hasn’t revealed any sales numbers for the collection.

As sales of GTA 5 continue to rise despite its old age – the game is almost 10 years old now – Rockstar Games has finally announced that a new game in the series is under development. GTA 6 doesn’t have a release window right now though.
