Grand Theft Auto 6, or whatever Rockstar will be calling the next instalment to its gargantuan series, has been confirmed to be in “active development.” Rockstar Games has said that the process of creating the next entry in the Grand Theft Auto series is “well underway.”
But this mere acknowledgement is the only piece of information that has come from the horse’s mouth. That means, there’s still nothing official about the game’s setting, its release date or platform information.

“With the unprecedented longevity of GTA5, we know many of you have been asking us about a new entry in the Grand Theft Auto series,” the company said in a blog post.
“With every new project we embark on, our goal is always to significantly move beyond what we have previously delivered – and we are pleased to confirm that active development for the next entry in the Grand Theft Auto series is well underway. We look forward to sharing more as soon as we are ready, so please stay tuned to the Rockstar Newswire for official details.”
What we’ve heard so far
Murmurs about the game have been going on for quite some time now. It’s being said that GTA 6 will be set in modern-day Vice City. This is the same fictional version of Miami that was used in the 2002 game, GTA: Vice City, although that one was set in the 1980s.
It’s also speculated that the game will feature a growing map that will keep getting bigger after release. Multiple playing characters will be part of the narrative this time around as well, with one of them expected to be female. As exciting as it all sounds, don’t expect GTA 6 to release until at least 2025.
Meanwhile, the much-delayed PS5 and Xbox Series X/S versions of GTA 5 now have a new release date. They will be arriving on March 15.
