Lollipop Chainsaw Is Being Remade, Coming In 2023

Lollipop Chainsaw

Lollipop Chainsaw, one of the more unusual games of the PS3/Xbox 360 era, is getting a remake that’s coming out in 2023. The hack-and-slash offering was originally developed by Grasshopper Manufacture, with Goichi Suda serving as co-director and filmmaker James Gunn serving as co-writer.

As per Automaton Media, the Lollipop Chainsaw remake will be handled by Dragami Games. The release will coincide with the original game’s ten-year anniversary. This remake is being overseen by producer Yoshimi Yasuda, who also served as the executive producer on the 2012 entry.

He has said, “We, the original development staff on Lollipop Chainsaw, think of the game as very precious to us, and did not want to leave it in limbo, where players who want to play it cannot.”

He is referring to the fact that Lollipop Chainsaw is not available through backwards compatibility so the only way to play it right now is on a PS3 or an Xbox 360. Although the real reason is unknown, it can be attributed to licensing issues related to the game’s soundtrack, which included several popular numbers from back in the day.

Perhaps that’s the reason why Yasuda has said, “aside from a few licensed tracks, the soundtrack will consist of new music.” He has also revealed that the game will take a “more realistic approach” to the graphics this time around.”

Lollipop Chainsaw wasn’t quite well received after is arrival, however, its fresh story, dark humor, and relentless hack-and-slash gameplay did help it achieve cult status. Its plot involved a cheerleader who is secretly a zombie hunter, saving her town from a zombie outbreak, all while having the talking head of her boyfriend attached to her hip.

Platform details about the Lollipop Chainsaw remake are not out yet.
