Tomb Raider has now sold a whopping 8.5 million copies worldwide

The rebooted Tomb Raider was a wonderful game in our opinion, and that has seemingly managed to incite more than 8.5 million people around the world to buy it. This has made the new offering the most successful game in the entire franchise, and has also increased the expectations from its sequel which is about to be launched later this year. Released back in March 2013, this title had managed to sell 3.4 million copies within just a month’s time, but this figure was still halfway shy of what Square Enix had hoped to achieve during that period.

Tomb Raider

Tomb Raider was first released for the PS3, Xbox 360 and PC in 2013, while a Mac version was outed in 2014. Last year, the game also took the next-gen leap in the form of a Definitive Edition meant for the PS4 and the Xbox One. This version of the game featured updated graphics that took full advantage of the advanced hardware provided by the two consoles from Sony and Microsoft. The 8.5 million figure includes sales of the game on all the above mentioned platforms.

This title granted a full reboot to the extremely popular Tomb Raider series. Instead of focusing on Lara Croft’s adventures as the established character featured in previous games, it chose to show her beginning, and the process of what she went through in order to become the adventurer that she is. A sequel to it named Rise of the Tomb Raider is currently in the making, and is slated to be released only for the Xbox One and the Xbox 360 later this year.

Rise of the Tomb Raider could very well make it to other platforms, but details regarding this matter are not available still.
