Rise of the Tomb Raider may come to other platforms after all

Square Enix and Microsoft broke the hearts of millions when they announced that the upcoming Rise of the Tomb Raider is an Xbox exclusive. But we’ve now received a hint that it might be arriving for other platforms some time or the other. Word is that the exclusivity deal is timed which means it’s supposed to end after a particular date. This means owners of PlayStation consoles and those who prefer PC gaming can breathe a sigh of relief. However, the question that still remains is, when exactly is this timed exclusivity supposed to come to an end.

Rise Of The Tomb Raider

At Gamescom, the two involved parties made a shocking announcement which was the recipient of quite some internet rage. They revealed that Rise of the Tomb Raider will be released during 2015’s holiday season exclusively on the Xbox 360 and the Xbox One. No other game from the franchise has ever taken this route, which in itself made it hard to believe that the exclusivity deal will last forever.

The issue was later cleared up by Xbox boss Phil Spencer, who spoke to Eurogamer and mentioned that Square Enix is free to do whatever it wants with Rise of the Tomb Raider once the deal ends. However, on being queried about the duration of this exclusivity deal, Spencer replied with a ‘No.’

Rise of the Tomb Raider will act as a successor to the reboot which was launched in 2013. It will chronicle the journey of protagonist Lara Croft from where the predecessor left off. Like we said, it will be out for the Xbox 360 and the Xbox One during the holiday season of 2015.
