With the Saints Row 4 release date now out, eager fans of the series can start looking forward to August when it’s slated to arrive. To be exact, North America will be getting it on August 20, whereas the its worldwide launch has been targeted for a few days later, on August 23. Deep Silver is the series’ new publisher following the huge THQ auction, and it has announced that the game will be aimed at ‘current-gen consoles’ and PC.
Saints Row 4 will adhere to the model set up by its predecessors by presenting payers with an open world environment coupled with everything that can be described as over the top. The game will continue with narrating the story of the Third Street Saints, the protagonist gang from the series. Elevating their status to the highest level is the fact that this iteration will have the gang’s leader becoming the president of the United States.
There’s a twist in the tale however. A catastrophic alien invasion spoils their party, transporting them to into a bizarro-Steelport simulation. This gives them the ability to wield enormous superpowers, bestowing them with the ultimate aim of fighting to free humanity from the grasp of the alien leader, Zinyak. Throughout the process, the protagonists will be able to make use of alien weaponry and technology, thus fulfilling one of the main appeals of the series.
Deep Silver has disclosed that players will be enabled to utilize ‘out-of-this-world superpowers’ on their journey, while enhanced customization options will also be there for them to enjoy. Leaping over buildings, outrunning fast sports cars and thrusting enemies with telekinesis are some of the superpowers that have been disclosed till now.
This is all set to be the fourth main entry to the series which began in 2006 as an Xbox 360 game. Then, in 2008 came its sequel which was first launched for the PS3 and the Xbox 360, after which, it was ported to PC in 2009. The third iteration of the series came out in 2011 for all three platforms, scoring an 8.5/10 in our review of it.
