We know too much about The Phantom Pain to not believe that it’s Metal Gear Solid 5. But skeptics can know that recent developments have suggested that the game could indeed receive official recognition at the Game Developers Conference in San Francisco. The former was revealed through a teaser of sorts at last year’s Spike VGAs, but it featured heaps of indications pointing towards it being the next chapter within the long-standing MGS series.

Eagle-eyed fans who had found out these hints are certain that Metal Gear Solid 5 was indeed teased as The Phantom Pain which was told to be under development from a completely unheard of studio called Moby Dick. The name of its supposed CEO, Joakim Mogren has a clue in it however. Joakim is a play of words for Kojima, while the word Mogren has ogre in it. While Kojima is the last name of series developer Hideo Kojima, ogre is part of MGS 5’s codename, Project Ogre.
Anyways, the new development around this matter is quite a funny one. Geoff Keighley of Game Trailers was called upon by Joakim to interview him inside its hotel room, with his face all covered in bandages due to an alleged ”˜accident.’ While speaking to Keighley about the game, he was quizzed about whether or not The Phantom Pain is a next-gen game, to which he replied that he cannot confirm anything at the moment. He did reveal afterwards that a new trailer for the title will be released at the GDC.
He then went on to showcase some pictures of the alleged game on his iPad, and a few of them were watermarked with Fox Engine logos. When Keighley referred that to Joakim, the interview ended with a poorly enacted shocked expression on his face. Surely, this says a lot about how the whole setup was a planned program by the game’s makers to get hype up.

Besides, Hideo Kojima is all set to give a demonstration of the Fox Engine at the GDC. So, it doesn’t need a genius to make all the connections. March 27 is date on which his address is slated for, and hence, we can expect the mystery around The Phantom Pain and Metal Gear Solid 5 to be solved on the said date.
