News of a Thief reboot has come to our attention, and this immensely anticipated fourth entry to the incredible franchise has been announced to be a next-gen game, slated to hit the PS4, PC and ‘other next-gen consoles’ sometime in 2014. Eidos Montreal is at the helm of its development, and it again has its focus set on series protagonist Garrett who is returning to the ‘Gothic, industrial metropolis known simply as the City’ so as to ‘steal any and everything that will make him richer.’
The Thief reboot forms the cover story for the latest issue of Game Informer magazine, and hence, the said publication has some exclusive details about it. While physical copies of the magazine aren’t out yet, its digital versions have been released, thus granting us a look at what we can expect from the game in question.
According to what’s mentioned in it, the City has been hit with social tension due to a plague and the tyranny of a ruler named Baron. These are the only story details we have about the title right now. The narrative as well as the looks of this game would seem incredibly familiar to someone who has ever played Dishonored, but nothing can be judged until we play the actual game, can it?
As far as the title’s gameplay is concerned, the main detail is that it will still be played through a first-person perspective. Moreover, it will kick in a new Focus mechanic which does the job of highlighting things like walls, fingerprints and lights that are of interest to gamers. That’s not all; they will even be able to slow down time while pickpocketing using this Focus ability.
Advanced AI is one more department being underlined in the preview which the magazine has put up. Enemies within the game will be able to understand the topography of each of its levels. Moreover, different foes will look for Garrett in a different manner. And then there’s eavesdropping which will form a major part of the title as well.
