“It’s not a direct sequel, in terms of it doesn’t follow on from the story of Amnesia. It doesn’t involve the same characters,” Dear Esther writer Dan Pinchbeck, appears to have told the website, pointing out that the story is an “alternate history and set in the same universe.”

The narrative of this game will transpire in 1899 and will revolve around a wealthy industrialist named Oswald Mandus. After returning home from a disastrous expedition to Mexico which ended in tragedy, he is haunted by dreams of a dark machine. Months after this, he once wakes up to find the mysterious machine in reality.

Amnesia: A Machine for Pigs is yet to be blessed with an actual release date, but it has been made clear that the title will not be seen hitting PC before the third quarter of 2012.
