Star Trek, a game based on the upcoming film by noted director J.J. Abrams, has been given a release date by its publisher. It is all set to make its way to the PS3 and Xbox 360 through retail, while it will be made available as a digital download for the PS3 and PC. Pre-orders for the game have already gone live, and a few bonuses for those who reserve their copies beforehand have been announced as well.
The ones who pre-book the title through participating retailers will receive access to the Elite Officer Pack, which kicks in a number of exclusive items and uniforms for legendary characters, Kirk and Spock. Marianne Krawczyk, the writer of various God of War games, has penned the story of this title. And interestingly, it features a completely new narrative that is set in the universe of the Star Trek franchise.
The contents of the Elite Officer Pack include a Stealth Pack which comprises stealth uniforms for the two characters as well as a Starfleet Type IV Stealth Sniper Rifle and extra ammo. It also contains a Brawler Pack which gives Kirk a leather jacket costume and Spock, a Vulcan Science Academy costume. And then there’s the Kelvin Pack which features U.S.S. Kelvin uniforms and a U.S.S. Kelvin Hand Phaser. The Elite Officer Pack even includes an Academy Pack and a Kobayashi Maru Pack that grant respective uniforms to the two main characters.
This game is being built as a co-op title by developer Digital Extremes. The name might ring some bells for those who played last year’s impressive The Darkness II. It is also responsible for creating certain components in other high-profile games like BioShock 2 and Homefront.
This new Star Trek video game will have its story set after the events that transpired in the 2009 reboot movie. It has been modeled as a two-player co-op game from the ground up, and features two different play styles for both the main characters. The voices for these figures will be provided by Chris Pine and Zachary Quinto who star in the film as Kirk and Spock, respectively.
