That Resident Evil 6 will contain the Mercenaries mode which we’ve seen in RE4 and RE5 is no biggie; but Capcom has announced that some added maps for the mode will be doled out as pre-order bonuses through specific retailers. This means, the maps gamers will receive with their copies will depend upon where they decide to pre-order the title from.
Gamestop, Amazon and Best Buy will each have one exclusive map to be contained in their copies of Resident Evil 6. The first map is named The Catacombs, which will be available through GameStop. Said to feature more than just enemies, this map is filled with booby traps that require quick reflexes. The one with Amazon is named High Seas Fortress, and is based on an aircraft carrier which has room for intense shoot-outs as well as close-quarters combat.
A post on the official Capcom-Unity blog read, “For those unfamiliar with ‘mercs,’ here’s a quick rundown. The super-intense Mercenaries Mode lets you play as your favorite characters from Resident Evil 6 as you fight your way through hordes of enemies within a given time limit. Chaining together multiple kills and finding other surprises will help you reach the highest score and prove that you’re the world’s greatest mercenary!”
Lastly, those who pre-order the game through Best Buy will receive the Rail Yard map. Described as a multi-level stage, the map is set in a railroad yard which is swarming with enemies. The title was announced in January this year, and is claimed by Capcom to be a blend of both survival horror and action genres.
Resident Evil 6 is scheduled to release for the PS3 and Xbox 360 on October 2, 2012, whereas its PC version will be launched on a later date. The game can be pre-ordered now through GameStop, Amazon and Best Buy at 59.99 USD (approx. Rs. 3,080).
