Xbox One to support eight controllers at once, PS4 only four

Here’s one department the Xbox One seems to be outshining the PS4 in; while the latter has been confirmed to support just four controllers at once, the former will ship with the ability to allow a total of eight gamers to play at a time. The question now remains is whether developers will actually utilize this facility or will they just focus on single and occasionally two-player experiences since online multiplayer is such a big part of the industry.

On the official Xbox website, Microsoft has listed all the important details regarding its new controller. Through the site, the company has also brought to the fore the fact these pads will feature a maximum of 30-feet wireless range. That’s actually same as that of the Xbox 360 controller. And if more comparisons are to be made, then Microsoft’s current console only supports four controllers at a time, as opposed to its successor’s twofold growth to that number. We’re yet to hear about a game that will take advantage of this facility however.

Following this revelation about the Xbox One, Sony’s Shuhei Yoshida was questioned on Twitter regarding how many pads the PS4 would be able to handle. Identical to another one of his recent one-word replies, he answered, ‘4.’ That’s a downgrade from the PS3, since the current-gen console allows 7 DualShocks to be connected at once. Needless to say, not many games have utilized this ability as well, meaning that it could be a calculated decision on Sony’s part.

In other news regarding the Xbox One, it has been confirmed (via GeekWire) by Microsoft to be in full production now for a November release, equipped with a slightly improved processor than the one announced. The ticker has been clocked to 1.75GHz as opposed to its earlier speed of 1.6GHz. The PS4 still has a 1.6GHz processor.
