Lava Iris Alfa L launch: Android Lollipop, 8MP camera, quad core chip

The new Lava Iris Alfa L which has been launched in India for Rs 8000, comes with Android Lollipop v5.0 pre-installed. More and more homegrown manufacturers are selling even low-end to mid-range with the latest software onboard since it’s easier to convince people to buy them when the OS is up to date.

There is a choice of budget handsets within the same range in the Indian market. Hence the Lava Iris Alfa L will find it hard to sell. If you’re asking about alternatives, just take the Micromax Canvas Spark, Lenovo A7000 and Motorola Moto E 4G 2nd generation as good examples.

The Iris Alfa L looks quite neat and appears to be painted in two color options of black and white. Its front is taken up by a 5.5-inch panel crowned by a 2MP webcam. The display is a bit disappointing since it only spews out qHD resolution images. An 8MP lens with LED flash can be found perched on the rear panel of this Lava phone.

We have to admit that the smartphone would look better on paper than the 2015 Moto E if it had packed in at least 2GB RAM and a Snapdragon processor. Unfortunately, all you get is MediaTek and 1GB of RAM. The internal memory reads at 8GB and this can be expanded with the help of a microSD card slot.
