New Multiplayer Mode Revealed for XCOM: Enemy Unknown

Exciting information coming in from 2K Games has revealed that the upcoming XCOM: Enemy Unknown will kick in a one-on-one multiplayer mode. This happens to be a first for any game from the XCOM series which had its initial title released way back in 1993.

Developer Firaxis Games has announced that the ‘unique’ multiplayer game mode from this title will feature head to head deathmatch scenarios. These will enable gamers to select a squad of soldiers, aliens or even a combination of both unit types in order to create a squad to command in battle. For its gameplay, tactics and strategy attributes, the multiplayer mode depends upon the title’s single-player experience, albeit, without any direct references to the story.

“Throughout the history of the XCOM series, players have acted as the world’s last hope against the alien invasion. With the multiplayer mode in XCOM: Enemy Unknown, gamers can finally find out what it’s like to command alien units and unleash extraterrestrial destruction on Planet Earth or defend it with a squad of XCOM soldiers and alien allies,” commented Jake Solomon, lead designer of XCOM: Enemy Unknown.

Apart from the ability for players to mix and match both alien and soldier units to create their squads, the multiplayer mode will even allow them to equip their soldiers with various armor types, weapons, items and class-based abilities. These one-on-one matches can even be modified by point limit or time limit per turn.
