The WWE 2K14 release date has been announced by the new owner of the property, Take-Two Interactive. This announcement was made by the publisher during its earnings call yesterday, where it also put forward details regarding other games that are being managed by it. The newest wrestling game will be launched by it for the PS3 and the Xbox 360 come October 29, 2013, the same date which will see Ubisoft’s Assassin’s Creed 4: Black Flag come out as well.
The new game will be developed by Yukes, the studio which has been producing games from the franchise since more than a decade. Till earlier this year, the rights to the series were entrusted to THQ, but the long-standing company had to file for bankruptcy, leading to the auction of most of its properties. During the process which saw high-profile franchises being sold to industry biggies, the wrestling game property was quick to be snapped up by Take-Two, which has now labeled it with its standard 2K nomenclature.
The last entry to the series had come out in October last year, for the PS3, Xbox 360 and Wii. This game had embraced familiar gameplay elements, but had its focus set on the Attitude Era of the wrestling timeline, proffering six different storylines. It was well received by critics, with most on them praising its Attitude Era mode as well as its core gameplay. Some awkward camera movements were cited as one of its flaws.
Other details that have come out through the earnings call by Take-Two Interactive include the fact that BioShock Infinite has managed to sell off 3.7 million copies till now. Apparently, these are ”˜significantly’ higher first-month sales than for any other BioShock title. Moreover, it has also been revealed that a Season Pass for the game has been planned. Three new DLC packs are ready to hit the title, and these will all be offered under the Season Pass. While last year’s Max Payne 3 sold 4 million units, Borderlands 2 is all set to become 2K Games’ best-selling title ever.
The release information about WWE 2K14 may be out, but its other details have been kept secret.
