Konami acquires the Copa Santander Libertadores for PES series

Pro Evolution Soccer series is formulated by Konami and offers fans of the sport loads of titles on various gaming platforms. Just yesterday we reported about a new free DLC for Pro Evolution Soccer 2010. Now Konami Digital Entertainment has acquired the license to the Copa Santander Libertadores which is the most renowned soccer club tournament in South America.

Dr. Nicolas Leoz, President of Conmebol explained, “We are very proud of reaching an agreement with Konami. The Copa Santander Libertadores is one of the most important competitions in the world and its presence within the Pro Evolution Soccer videogame indicates the great importance of this competition and the interest that it generates around the world.”

The deal formulated by the company enables all the components including all-star teams and players of the Copa Santander Libertadores Club Competition to be utilized into the Pro Evolution Soccer series. With this latest inclusion, Konami is now in possession of Copa Santander Libertadores as well as UEFA Champions League.

Shinji Hirano, President for Konami Digital Entertainment, Inc. revealed, “The Copa Santander Libertadores is one of the most influential and important international soccer competitions in the World. We always strive to make our sports titles as true to life as possible and with the exclusive rights to Copa Santander Libertadores, fans can expect to see their favorite teams and players on the roster in Pro Evolution Soccer titles.”

The Copa Santander Libertadores is noted to be an annual international soccer tournament which was founded in 1960. Organized by Conmebol, the name itself pays homage to the Libertadores who were freedom fighters.
