EA Sports Grand Slam Tennis gets Cover Athletes

EA has announced the cover athletes for its EA Sports Grand Slam Tennis. The tennis stars to be featured on the North American cover of the game will be John McEnroe, Roger Federer and Serena Williams. Some time ago EA had announced that the game would use the MotionPlus technology.

John McEnroe, one of Tennis’ most recognized athletes, known best for his on-court temper, was confirmed as exclusive to the sports title. Federer and Williams are some of the most successful athletes in the sport having won 23 Grand Slam singles titles between the two of them. Also, Serena will be the first woman to appear on the cover of an EA Sports project.

“It’s very exciting to be on the cover of EA Sports Grand Slam Tennis. This game not only shows EA’s enthusiasm for tennis but for also women’s tennis,” remarked Ms. Williams. “I know from experience how tough and gratifying it is to win all four Grand Slams so I hope people will enjoy the Grand Slam experience that is offered in this game.”

EA Sports Grand Slam Tennis is being developed first for the Wii, by EA Canada in Vancouver. The game will ship to North American retailers on June 15, 2009, one day before the announced ship date. Grand Slam Tennis is set to ship to the UK, Sweden, Norway, Denmark, Finland, Australia and Spain on June 12, 2009 and to the rest of the world on June 26, 2009.

For the Wii, the game will carry a maximum retail price of 49.95 USD (Rs. 2,500) in the North American region. The EA Sports title will also be released for the PS3 and Xbox 360 and will have classic match-ups from the past and even have dream matches set up which were not possible earlier.
