The PSPgo is Sony’s latest gaming gadget, about which everyone just can’t stop talking. It has also been repeatedly noted that the price of the handheld console is quite a bit higher than the PSP-3000. In fact if you purchase a PSP-2000 plus a Memory Stick Pro Duo now it will still cost you less than a PSPgo.
President of SCEE, Andrew House was quizzed regarding the price of the PSPgo by UK trade news and community site, MCV. Andrew House admits to the price inflation of the device, for those who want to buy the product as soon as it hits shelves.
When asked whether the high price of the PSPgo was due to research and development costs, or due to the fact that there will be no retail software, House firmly stated, “Those aren’t the factors. When you introduce a new piece of hardware you have the opportunity to say there is a certain premium that is associated with it, and we took that into account.”
So Sony is fine with charging more for something just because it is new. House also says that the company will address the price issue when the time is right.
