Sony PSP Go has Faster Processor Speeds than Expected

The PSP Go is the new version of the PSP handheld gaming device. The system comes with a smaller 3.8 inch LCD screen and does not have a UMD slot. Initially, official specifications pegged the device’s clock frequency at 333 MHz. SonyInsider now reports that recent FCC documents have revealed that the PSP Go processor can reach clock speeds up to 480 MHz.

The older PSP version was initially locked at 222 MHz but apparently, God of War: Chains of Olympus developers pleaded with the manufacturers to come out with the firmware 3.50, which got the full 333 MHz out of the PSP processor. Gamers reported a lot of difference in game quality due to this firmware update.

Speculations are rife about whether there would be any firmware updates for the PSP Go to unleash the 480 MHz beast. Additionally, there are talks about some intensive applications which would make the device’s software scale up running speeds.

In any case, the PSP Go is more than 40 percent faster that the original version and will be a treat for all handheld gaming fans when it goes up in stores this October. The projected retail price is about USD 249 (approx. Rs. 11,905).
