Sony PSP Leading Hardware in 2008 in Japan

A few days ago, we had reported that the Microsoft Xbox 360 had outsold the Sony PS3 in Japan. But Sony should not be worried. Their handheld gaming console has been doing well in Japan. Now it has emerged that Sony’s PSP has been the best selling hardware platform in the land of the rising of sun.

New sales data from Enterbrain, who are the publishers of Japanese gaming magazine Famitsu, indicates that the PSP has been the leading hardware in the first half of the fiscal year. Some 1,583,731 units of the PSP were sold in Japan compared to 1,314,919 units of the Nintendo DS. In fact, the figures of Enterbrain are similar to those of Media Create.

As for the home consoles, the Nintendo Wii has sold 1,105,174 units in Japan, while the PS3 has managed to shift 352,457 units. Microsoft Xbox 360 trails with 138,740 units. Coming to the game software, Mario Kart Wii, Monster Hunter Portable 2nd G and Pokémon Platinum are the top three in Japan.
