thatgamecompany’s latest adventure offering Journey, was released for the PS3 about two weeks back and within this time, the game has managed to achieve the record of being the fastest-selling PSN title for Sony’s console in North America. Moreover, addressing ”˜a lot of’ requests from fans to release the title’s music, the developer will be outing its soundtrack through PSN and iTunes this April.
The score of the game has been composed by Hollywood music director, Austin Wintory, and it is also scheduled to come out in the form of a limited CD release in the future. On the official PlayStation blog, the developer has mentioned that it is the reaction from its fans that keeps it driving forward to make new games. Its earlier production Flower, was a similar adventure title released in 2009. And though this game too was well received, Journey seems to have gone a step further, as the company is said to have got more fan letters in the two weeks since its launch than it did for Flower over the past three years.
“We owe a lot to our fans. In fact, idea of forming the thatgamecompany team to create games with Sony Santa Monica originated from several dozen emails that players sent in after playing our first student game, Cloud, from our time at USC. It was the players who told us how moving the game was and how it is important that we keep making these types of games so that more people in the world will realize what video games can be, and can grow to love games through our work. To me, that was a life-changing moment. I knew making games was my life calling,” said Jenova Chen, Creative Director, thatgamecompany, on the blog.
This game allows players to jump into the shoes of a robed figure and make their way through a desert. It features no map or instructions, but only a large mountain in the distance that gamers must make their way towards. Being an online title, they will even be able to meet other players, allowing them to assist each other in their respective expeditions.
Journey can now be purchased through PSN for the PS3 at a price of 14.99 USD (approx. Rs. 765). Its soundtrack is supposed to release on April 10.
