Way of the Samurai 4 Confirmed for North American PS3 Release

More than a year after its official Japanese release, Way of the Samurai 4 has been announced to be headed for North America exclusively for the PS3 through publisher, XSEED Games. This uncut and uncensored version of the original game is said to be filled with torture chambers, naughty midnight missions in the dark as well as a historically accurate sandbox-style samurai period setting.

Through a post on the official PlayStation blog, the story of the title has been revealed. It revolves around the opening of Japan’s borders to the British in order to allow the globalization process to start. But one of these open ports is located on a modest Japanese town named Amihama. Here, a resistance group called ‘Disciples of Prajna’ has taken up arms against the arriving foreigners and everyone who supports them.

“As a lone samurai who’s just arrived amidst the chaos, it’s up to you whether you want to join forces with the Prajna resistance, fight alongside the foreigners in the name of progress or take your stance somewhere between the two by supporting the local government’s attempts to quell the violence (through any means possible),” wrote Tom Lipschultz, Localization Specialist, XSEED Games, on the blog.

Being a sandbox title, players will have complete freedom over playing the game however they wish. A European version for the game is also said to be on the cards for later this year. The action-adventure title only contains single-player offerings.

Way of the Samurai 4 will be released in North America through PSN for the PS3. It’s price and availability details are yet to be confirmed by the publisher.
