Jak and Daxter Collection Headed for PS3 with Support for HD, 3D and Trophies

Uncharted maker Naughty Dog has announced on the official PlayStation blog that a new Jak and Daxter Collection is on its way to the PS3 and it includes re-mastered versions of three previous titles in the series. HD visuals, stereoscopic 3D support as well as PS3 Trophies will all form a part of this collection which is slated to launch in February next year.

Jak and Daxter: The Precursor Legacy, Jak II and Jak 3 are the three games that will be comprised in this pack. All these titles have been re-imagined by Mass Media, under close cooperation with Naughty Dog. High definition 720p visuals along with smoother gameplay animation are apparently on offer to gamers who purchase this collection.

“The Jak and Daxter franchise set a benchmark for the platformer genre with its huge environments and gaming freedom. In fact, it holds seven world records in the Guinness World Records: Gamer’s Edition 2008 including the First Seamless 3D World in a Console Game. As you can imagine, there’s a lot of love for the franchise here at Naughty Dog, and it has a very special place in our hearts,” explained, Evan Wells, Co-President, Naughty Dog, on the blog.

The first game in the Jak and Daxter series was released back in 2001, after which Jak II and Jak 3 followed in 2003 and 2004 respectively. Jak and Daxter: The Lost Frontier is the most recent among the games, having released in 2009 for the PSP and PS2. The franchise’s characters are also known to have featured in this year’s PS Move Heroes. In December 2011, the series is all set to celebrate its 10th anniversary.

The Jak and Daxter Collection will be released of the PS3 in February 2012. Pricing details of this pack are yet to be revealed by the developer.
