Sony extends Free AllClear ID Plus Identity Theft Protection to US PSN Account Holders

In the wake of the recent illegal intrusions into Sony’s PlayStation Network and Qriocity services, there seems to be various concerns arising about the safeguard of SOE customer data. In an attempt to put these worries at bay, the company has offered an identity theft protection program. Sony Computer Entertainment along with Sony Network Entertainment International has joined forces with Debix to provide its users with free AllClear ID Plus. As the official PlayStation blog suggests, this offer is valid for 12 months after PSN and Qriocity account holders sign in for the program.

Some of the features gamers can look forward to with the latest identity theft protection initiative include Cyber monitoring of the internet as well as a $1 million identity theft insurance policy for each user. As the company suggests, exposure of an AllClear ID Plus user’s personal information will be monitored. This includes data recovered by law enforcement and surveillance of criminal websites. On detection of personal information, the customer will be alerted with the same through email or phone and advice them on the necessary steps to take. Monthly identity status reports will also be given.

Additional protection is also given to users in the form of up to 1 million USD identity theft insurance policy in the case of identity theft. Thanks to this policy, they can avail of financial relief for the same sum of money that will cover legal defense expenses, covered identity restoration costs and lost wages within 12 months after the event.

The company will begin sending out activation emails in the next few days. Users can redeem their code until June 8, 2011. US account holders can sign up directly via AllClearID while details for the program will be e-mailed to them. The company further reveals that security measures for gamers strewn across other parts of the world will be shortly unveiled.
