Paramount Digital Entertainment reveals that players as well as fans can immerse themselves in all the Top Gun action witnessed in the movie bearing the same name. They can now acquire the Top Gun video game from the PlayStation Network and enjoy the title on the PS3. The free-flying air combat shooter pulls gamers into the world of Maverick and Iceman among other Top Gun flyers. To further augment their flying experience, new combat scenarios and dialogues for the title are penned by the film’s screenwriter, Jack Epps, Jr.
“Jumping into the cockpit and blasting down bogeys to the classic compositions ‘Danger Zone’ and ‘Top Gun Anthem’ is something every ‘Top Gun’ fan has wanted to do since the film’s release,” stated John Kavanagh, senior vice president of video games, Paramount Digital Entertainment. “And with the help of Jack Epps, Jr., we’re excited to offer both intense combat and all-new encounters with the film’s famous flyers.”
Adorning the role of Maverick, gamers can face the elite of the Top Gun Academy with their Radar Intercept Officer, Goose. The events to follow see them going head-on with the Soviets over the Indian Ocean. The game enables players to engage in large-scale dogfight battles and also offers five multiplayer modes where up to 16 players can battle online. In Campaign Mode, fans must first learn the techniques at the Academy then move on to active duty by joining forces with experienced pilots in order to successfully shoot down enemy planes. The teamwork between Iceman and Maverick will be crucial as they go up against the acme Soviet pilot.
“I’ve always wanted to expand the story of Mav and Ice after graduation. In the film, we got to the ending really fast, but the game gives them a few more missions to compete and challenge each other. The Top Gun game is the perfect place for the two best pilots in the world to continue to answer the question: Who’s the best pilot? And this time they face the top Soviet ace, Ivan. I think the game is a great extension to the movie,” explained Jack Epps, Jr.

With seven gameplay modes, including five online multiplayer modes, and a script penned by the screenplay’s original author, Top Gun is incredibly deep for a digital distribution title. Besides five multiplayer modes, Top Gun also includes two single player modes and Horde Mode where they face waves of increasingly challenging foes. The online multiplayer enables players to either sign up in the US Navy or the Soviet comrades to fight against up to 15 other live opponents in five different modes. These comprise of Team Deathmatch, Bombing Run, Deathmatch, Capture the Flag and Bombing Run. At the gamers’ disposal do six planes like the US Navy’s F-14, F/A-18, F-16, MiG-29, MiG-31, and Su-27 with each jet possess their own unique abilities and strengths.
Top Gun is developed by doublesix and can be downloaded for the PS3 tagged at a price of 14.99 USD (approx. Rs. 698) with the PC and Mac versions expected to release later this year. When players lay their hands on the offering, they will also be endowed with a free limited edition Flight Suit for their PlayStation Home avatar.
