Sony Announces higher capacity PS3, new Colour for Japan

At E3 this year Microsoft hit back at Sony announcing a newer (and shorter) version of its Xbox 360 console in black with a 250 GB hard drive. Now in what only seems to be an escalating console war, Sony Japan has announced that the PS3 will be soon be made available in Japan in 160 GB and 320 GB hard drive configurations and the 160 GB PS3 will also be available in the new colour of “Classic White”.

In addition, on the same day as the launch of these new configurations and the new colour in Japan, the DualShock 3 wireless controller and the vertical stand for the PS3 will also be available in Classic White. There will also be a special PS3 bundle which will be available as a limited offer.

The PS3 system will still come with all its cutting-edge features such as the ability to play Blu-ray discs, stereoscopic 3D games, and the ability to access various content and services. The 160 GB and 320 GB PS3 systems will become available in Japan on July 29, 2010 at a recommended retail price of 29,980 JPY (approx. Rs. 15,915) and 34,980 JPY (approx. Rs. 18,570) respectively.

The DualShock 3 wireless controller and the vertical stand will come in the new colour for a price of 5,500 JPY (approx. Rs. 2,920) and 2,000 JPY (approx. Rs. 1,060) respectively. The PlayStation 3 Digital Terrestrial Broadcasting Recorder Pack includes a 160 GB Charcoal Black PS3 system and the “torne” digital terrestrial tuner and application. This bundle will be available at 36,980 JPY (approx. Rs. 19,630). According to a statement from the company, starting from July 7, 2010, the current PS3 system presently available at 29,980 JPY, will become open price.
