PlayStation Move Doesn’t Ruin SOCOM 4 Experience: Producer Elliott Martin

A couple of months back we had reported that SOCOM 4 would release onto the PS3 gaming platform by autumn this year. Although the unveiling of the game is still a few months away, fans of the SOCOM series are already feeling a tad dismayed. This concern seems to be due to the employment of the PlayStation Move with the upcoming SOCOM 4 title. Producer of the game Elliott Martin however reassured that the device won’t ruin the experience.

Elliott Martin told Eurogamer, “I’ve seen games in development which would be considered hardcore and which make very good use of the Move implementation — SOCOM being just one of them. It doesn’t ruin the experience, that’s the important thing. It may not be the exact experience certain people want but that’s why we’re being very careful to not lock it down. We’re trying to preserve the different playing methods to appease everyone.”

Although the PlayStation Move controller can be used with the game, players will be offered different control options as well as calibration flexibility with the PlayStation Move through motion-controlled aiming.

He further added, “You basically have to define the screen area you’re mapping the control to. If you do very small movements the game will amplify that, so that any movement will be a very sudden, fast movement. If when calibrating you do very exaggerated movements, like if you have a massive telly, then a smaller movement is a much smaller movement on-screen.”

For gamers who are still a bit apprehensive, Martin reassures that the Move is an additional and optional feature in SOCOM 4. He reveals that players can indulge in gameplay by utilizing either controller depending on their preference.

Apparently Zipper Interactive has still to announce a solution for multiplayer matches as the employment of the PlayStation Move and DualShock 3 controller by different players may affect the balance of online matches.
