Gundam VOD Service for PS3 in Development by Namco Bandai

Back in 2007, Sony and Namco Bandai had jointly formed Cellius to “help take share from Microsoft Corp. and Nintendo Co.” The company was supposed to be working on “interactive and ‘surprising’ contents” in addition to games. According to Andria Sang, Namco Bandai got off to displaying a trial Gundam video-on-demand service for Sony’s PlayStation 3 at the Tokyo International Anime Fair.

Termed the Gundam Viewchives, the VOD will be something unlike any old VOD service and will allow PS3 users to view whole episodes as well as specific scenes and “keywords” from the Gundam series. This is aimed at building some sort of archive for Gundam fans to enjoy and should cater to about 400 keywords.

Keeping in mind that this is still in the testing and “research” phase, users who avail of this service will be able to go through details of the series including over 800 scenes taken from the 43 episodes. Although the navigation system that helps users go through these scenes is still primitive, Namco Bandai plans on changing the browsing interface into something that users can navigate around with the easy of floating through space.
