Sony has released a free update to Wipeout HD on the PlayStation Network. The update titled the V1.30 introduces a host of new options to the downloadable racing title. Earlier we had reported on a delay in the release of Wipeout HD.
Daimion Pinnock, Producer at SCEA writing on the PlayStation Blog explains that the update introduces a variety of new multiplayer features for the game. The update includes an online ranking system with more than 50 ranks to progress through. A player’s finishing position in comparison with the race class and opponents’ ranks will be taken into consideration while handing out ranking points.
The V1.30 update will bring a new podium screen which displays the top three finishers after every online race or tournament. And not considering the finishing position, a player has the chance to be awarded an ‘online badge’ determined by how that player has performed during the race. A total of 33 badges are available.
The update makes it very convenient for Wipeout fans to invite their friends and have their friends invite them to race. Also featured, is a spectator mode which offers 4 camera angles with which to watch the match-ups.
A few additional options include the HUD Weapons Hints on or off, Barrel Rolls on or off, and Pilot Assist Allowed on or off. Players can even choose to have games created as Public, Friends-only or Invite-only games and can do a maximum of 20 laps.
