PS3 to Outperform Wii, Xbox 360 by 2011: Analysts

The next generation console wars are far from over! Many people had written off the PS3 after its lackluster start. Now research firm iSuppli has come up with figures that indicate that the sales of the PlayStation 3 will go beyond the sales of the Nintendo Wii and Microsoft Xbox 360 by 2011.

PS3

Well, if you are wondering what the heck will put the PS3 on the top, well, iSuppli feels that the strong momentum of Sony’s next generation console will build during 2008 and it expects that Sony will sell more than ten million units of the PS3 worldwide. The continuous growth will thrust the PlayStation 3 to the top as it could go on to sell some 38.4 million units by 2011.

iSuppli has also indicated that the Nintendo Wii will be selling less than 8.2 million units over three years. As for the Xbox 360, the research firm has predicted that the global installed base of the Xbox 360 will be some 25.7 million consoles. The PS3 has been doing very well in the last few months, especially after Sony cut the price and then came up with a 40GB version of the console.
