80 GB PS3 Plans Denied by Sony

Eurogamer is reporting that Sony has denied that they are lining up an 80 GB PS3. Rumors about a 80 gig PS3 surfaced after Sony had a request for a class II permissive change to reflect some Bluetooth tweaks to the console with the US Federal Communications Commission. They had listed the currently available 20GB and 60GB versions as well as a new 80GB one.

80 GB PS3 Plans Denied by Sony

A Sony Europe spokesperson told Eurogamer, “The 80GB we’re not making a comment on, but we don’t have any plans at the moment.”

In the past, Sony boss Ken Kutaragi has said that he would love to launch a 250 GB PS3. However, neither a 250 GB nor an 80 GB would make sense. If Sony really wants to go for it, they should come out with a 160 GB white PS3 as Microsoft just announced the Elite i.e. a black Xbox 360 with a 120 GB hard drive. It does seem fair, doesn’t it?
