We Shipped a Million PS3s in US, Says Sony

Sony has now gone on the offensive and has announced that they shipped a million PS3 consoles in North America. However, they did not reveal the total number of consoles that were actually sold.

Million PS3s Shipped

SCEA boss Jack Tretton said, “SCEA went to great lengths to help meet demand for PS3, including airlifting systems into North America on a weekly basis to ensure a steady stream of units were available to consumers throughout the holiday season. The fact that we were able to reach the one-million mark faster than our top-selling platform, PS2, further validates the strength of the PlayStation brand and our belief that consumers are ready to experience true high-definition gaming. 2007 will be about software and delivering innovative, new experiences and award-winning franchises to consumers.”

Yeah, they are shouting that they have broken records and have shipped more PS3s than they shipped PS2s. But, PS2 sold in millions and PS3 just hasn’t been able to go to that mark. Even in Japan, where they had shipped around 80, 000 PS3 units, the console received a very lukewarm response. Sony is now gearing to officially launch its next-gen console in Europe, Russia, the Middle East, Africa, Australia and Asia.
