Wii outsells PS3 6 to 1 in Japan

Well, if the war between next-gen video game consoles would be a football match, it would be something reminiscent of the Man U – Roma tie in the Champions League last season! Just some time ago, we had reported that Wii was outselling the PS3 5 to 1 in Japan and before that the score was 4 to 1. Reuters is reporting that Nintendo’s next-gen console is outselling Sony’s by 6 to 1 in Japan.

Wii 6 - 1 PS3

According to the figures from Japanese video gaming magazine Enterbrain, Nintendo sold 270,974 units of the Wii in the four weeks ending June 24. On the other hand 41,628 units for the PS3 and 17,616 units for Microsoft’s Xbox 360 were sold. That means, for every one PS3 unit sold, six Wii units are shifted in Japan.

Masanao Maeda, who is the Corporate Director of Sega, was also heard saying that Sony should cut the price of PS3. He stated, “Name brand, price and software are what count. Since it’s getting difficult to make software availability a differentiating factor, superior marketing and pricing strategy will be the key for Sony.”

The news about Wii outselling the PS3 6 to 1 in Japan comes after Sony Australia had revealed that they were leading in Australia.
