PS3 Outselling Wii and Xbox 360 in Australia: Sony

A few weeks ago, we had posted about a report from a Tokyo-based research firm that had indicated that Wii was outselling the PS3 five to one in Japan. However, in Australia, things are different as Sony Computer Entertainment Australia head Michael Ephraim has stated that PS3 is outselling Wii and Xbox 360!

PS3 Outselling Wii in Australia

He used figures from data trackers GfK Australia and revealed that more than 50, 000 PS3 consoles were sold Down Under. Ephraim told GameSpot AU in an interview, “Based on GfK since launch, PS3 has been the number one next-gen console, outselling Wii and Xbox 360 every week, except for last week. Since March 23, PS3 has been the number one-selling next-gen console in Australia, and this is GfK figures. We have now sold 50,000, and we’re very excited about the fact that it’s being sold in retailers that are gaming retailers as a gaming device and other things, but as you’ll notice it’s now being sold in Harvey Norman consumer electronic stores as a Blu-ray player.”

But a few days ago, Nintendo Australia too had confirmed that their next-gen console Wii was the fastest to reach 100,000 units sold mark in Australia. However, what remains to be seen is whether Sony can manage to sell more units of the PS3 as compared to the Wii in other parts of the world, especially in Japan and North America.
