Space game Tacoma readying for release this August 2

Announced way back in December 2014, Tacoma by Fullbright is due to hit gaming platforms on August 2. Those who got a chance to lay their hands on a copy in advance have offered a look at the latest from the creator of Gone Home, and the reviews so far sound pretty promising.

The year is 2088 as players step into the boots of Amy Ferrier, a space contractor tasked with a mission onboard an abandoned space station dubbed Tacoma. The story of what happened to the crew members can be pieced together by playing back holographic audiovisual recordings of them.

Just like you have in AR or mixed-reality content, these phantoms from the past are superimposed on the real world in the game. It’d be easy to forget that uncovering the mystery of the abandoned station is not the actual goal here. Ferrier’s job is to salvage AI ODIN for Venturis Corporation, the owner of Tacoma.

So gamers will be darting around plugging a terminal into various ports throughout Tacoma and waiting for ODIN’s brain to download. Eurogamer’s Edwin Evans-Thirlwell supposes players may be able to complete the game by doing just this, and forgoing the investigation completely. We’ll have to wait a bit to find out.

Tacoma is coming to Xbox One, Windows PC, Mac and Linux tomorrow. Steam is currently offering pre-order customers a limited period discount of 10% on the purchase price of the game. If you liked Gone Home, there are high chances that you’ll like this one too.
