Come spring and gamers will get to download Microsoft Flight on their PCs for free. Exciting missions, various flying challenges, hidden aerocaches and a chance to fly over the picturesque Big Island of Hawaii would apparently be on offer to those who acquire this game.
It is said to feature a realistic representation of the earth. This will include region-specific weather patterns, terrain, foliage, and landmarks. While flying, gamers will be given a choice to select either a cockpit view for a more authentic control of the piloting procedures, or just go for an exterior view to enjoy the scenery. Moreover, the flight controls will be adjustable so as to suit the flying skills of players.
Joshua Howard, executive producer of Microsoft Flight, revealed, “Many people dream of flying, but few have the chance to experience the fun of exploring the world from above. Microsoft Flight provides players the opportunity to explore that curiosity and interest. Aviation can be incredibly technical, but we’ve taken great care to build an experience that makes taking to the skies thrilling and accessible for everyone.”
After downloading the title upon its launch, those gamers who login to their Games for Windows – Live accounts will receive free content such as a Boeing Stearman plane, supplementary missions and access to Achievements and an Online Pilot Profile. Extra content would also be made available in the form of paid downloads. Through this title, gamers would also get a chance to fly the ICON A5 (image below) aircraft even before its real-world production starts by the end of 2012. This amphibious monoplane supposedly bears a carbon fiber airframe and an automobile-inspired cockpit with space for two.
Microsoft Flight is yet to receive a definite release date, but it has been confirmed that this title will be made available for free.
