Carlos Santana to Feature as in-game Artist for Guitar Hero 5

We earlier reported about the revelation of 22 additional tracks for Guitar Hero 5’s on disc set list. Now, we have word that noted guitarist and Rock and Roll Hall of Famer, Carlos Santana, is going to feature as an exclusive in-game artist for the soon to be released music game. The Grammy Award winning artist has compiled more than 40 albums in his 40 year long music career and has given music fans some really memorable hits.

Tim Riley, Vice President of Music Affairs for Guitar Hero, exclaimed, “We’re thrilled to showcase one of the top guitarists of all time in Guitar Hero 5 and offer fans the opportunity to experience Carlos Santana’s signature sounds and iconic likeness first-hand. His accomplished career and breadth of musical style are a great illustration of the variety of rock experiences we have included in the game and we are excited to announce him as the first of five playable in-game artists.”

The live version of ‘No One to Depend On’ from Santana’s classic self titled 1971 album will be included in Guitar Hero 5 with Carlos Santana featuring as a playable character. New game features will allow fans to enjoy their own customized set list while letting them experience the excitement of being part of a band or solo act. Players would now be able to join any jam session mid way without interrupting the gameplay thanks to the new Party Play Mode. Guitar hero 5 will feature new surprises, challenges, enhanced game styling along with a host of new in-game artists.

Apart from Santana’s music, the game will also feature songs from a variety of music genres. The music game is set to showcase smash hits from some of the music industry’s biggest artists including Kings of Leon, The Rolling Stones, Vampire Weekend, The White Stripes, Tom Petty and Bob Dylan. Gamers can choose to play as bassists, vocalists, drummers and guitarists in any of the available game modes.

Guitar Hero 5 is published by Activision Publishing and is expected to release on September 1, 2009 for the PS3, Xbox 360, PS2 and Wii consoles, while exact pricing details for the game have not been announced.
