Rock Band Unplugged for PSP Coming in June 2009: EA

MTV Games, Harmonix and distribution partner EA have announced plans to release Rock Band Unplugged in early June of this year. The game is to be exclusively for the PSP.

“Rock Band Unplugged reinvents band gameplay while staying true to the authentic feel of the Rock Band console games,” stated Bob Picunko, Senior VP of Electronic Games for MTV Games. “Harmonix delivers innovation with every game they develop and we are excited to continue our long-list of industry firsts with the Rock Band in-game wireless music store on the PSP system.”

Rock Band Unplugged brings the experience of being in a band to the PSP, with certain key features from both Rock Band and Rock Band 2. Players are in for a rich Rock Band experience with modes like Band Survival, World Tour and Warm Up. The game even offers a character creator.

Rock Band Unplugged is said to have more than 40 master recordings which include nine new songs exclusive to the PSP, which will be later released as downloadable content for the console versions of Rock Band. Unplugged will also feature the first full-featured in-game store, powered by the PlayStation Network, as a source for DLC for the PSP in European and North American markets. PSP owners can also make use of the PlayStation Store to purchase tracks on the PC.

The tracks that will be exclusive to the PSP version of the game for a limited time before becoming available for consoles are:

    Less Talk More Rokk – Freezepop.
    Miss Murder – AFI.
    Rock Your Socks – Tenacious D.
    Show Me the Way – Black Tide.
    What’s My Age Again – Blink 182.
    Would? – Alice in Chains.

Harmonix in partnership with Backbone Entertainment are the development teams working on Rock Band Unplugged. The game is set to be released across North America and Europe on June 9, 2009 and is expected to retail for about 24.99 GBP (approx. Rs. 1,850) in the UK.
