One of the most popular simulation games of all time is The Sims. Millions of gamers play it all over the world. Now Electronic Arts (EA) has sent word that The Sims has reached an important milestone. The strategic life-simulation game has sold 100 million copies all over the world.
Nancy Smith is the president of The Sims Label. She explained that the game is very exceptional as it attracts creative people around the world of both genders and all ages. She says, “Because of the open-ended creative freedom that players experience with the game, The Sims has universal appeal like no other game franchise. We thank players everywhere for their creativity, sense of humor and strong sense of community that has made The Sims the cultural phenomenon it is today.”
Rod Humble is the head of studio for The Sims Label. He comments, “At this milestone, we want to thank players of The Sims everywhere for making The Sims such a worldwide phenomenon. The Sims has been an interactive experience for people around the globe to explore their passion for creativity and we are excited to be a part of that. From building houses and relationships, from the first kiss to a toddler’s first step, from kitchen fires and even visits from ghosts, gamers have told more than 100 million unique and fun stories!”
EA also released some funny facts about the Sims game. If a hundred million copies of the game were lined up end-to-end, they would stretch from New York City to Moscow. And if one were to line up the same amount of copies of the game, it would cover the perimeter of the Wembley football pitch over 115,000 times! In fact, EA noted that with some hundred million sold, the Sims game would be in one out of three homes in America and one out of seven homes in Europe
The Sims was first released in 2000. The simulation game has been sold in twenty-two languages and sixty countries around the world. A mobile version of The Sims was also released by EA Mobile. It also saw phenomenal success as the number has reached nine million downloads.
